2013 Nyvall Lecture (Part 2)

This is second in the two-part 2014 Nyvall Lecture entitled, “Placing Redemption: Toward an Ecclesiology that Matters.” Rev. Dr. Willie Jennings examines the significance of space and place for the mission and witness of local churches. A professor of theology and black church studies at Duke Divinity School, he discusses the loss of a sense of space and place in the Christian imagination and then offers a paradigm for rethinking the nature of church that takes seriously both geography and space. (The David Nyvall Lectureship was inaugurated in 1951 in memory of the pioneer Swedish American educator who served the school both as teacher and president. The theme of this spring lecture series is the interpretation of the Christian message for the contemporary world.)
